About Interpretive Moments in Time Photography

Professional Nature Photography by Brian Hawk

Our story began in 1983 while serving in the US armed forces, Europe. I walked into the base shopping mall “the PX” in Stuttgart Germany and fell in love with an Olympus OM 3 , 35 mm camera body. I was surprised at how comfortable the camera body fit in my hands. It was as if the body were molded specifically to me. Of course a selection of lenses were available as were lens filters and other accessories. SOLD! from that moment forward I slowly built up my collection of camera gear and headed out to photograph Germany. I remember taking rolls upon rolls of film in for developing. This was back in the day when a roll of film could take up to a week to be developed (especially if you were overseas). It was often like a new father waiting for his first born to appear, I couldn’t wait until the film and negatives were in my hands.

As life would have it, a wife and child changed my direction and my focus (pun intended). As my family grew and my priorities changed I sold that OM 3 but I had so many photo’s to look back on. Years later, a move to Arizona and an over active irrigation system washed away my collection of pictures and the negatives. In 2006 l stepped back into photography and purchased my first digital camera. I looked at Nikon, Olympus and Canon equipment. The Canon 50D won my heart. A new medium for picture taking, to be sure. I studied and took my camera nearly everywhere. Trips to Paris and Germany with camera in hand was the best way to learn my gear. Evening shots of the Eiffel tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame were great subjects and set the tone for my love of architecture and nature. It was interesting to learn the different file types and what they meant when developing shots. An introduction to Photoshop helped me to round out what has become a treasured hobby.

I established Interpretive Moments In Time, LLC in 2007. The intent was to share my hobby with others who might appreciate this passion. Professional pictures of the surrounding nature to be interpreted by each individual. I chose the name Interpretive Moments In Time as a way of leaving the work, each photograph, the colors, the subject matter and the perspective open to “interpretation”. It’s my philosophy that each moment in time can be interpreted differently from one individual to another.
